Derails. Again. For real.

I posted a really cool video showcasing how James McNab modelled a hinged derail on his HO scale layout. It is such a simple detail and by incorporating a working one into his layout, he’s representing another important aspect of real railroading into the operational of their layout. As I looked up from the wheel stops I had just finished photographing, I saw an actual hinged derail just like the model one that had caught my imagination.
HO scale modellers can use one from Detail Associates but in N we’re on our own with scratchbuilding but the model will be so small that it really won’t be too much to represent. Equally important to the actual derail is the bracket it presumably falls into when not in place on the rail.
