I don’t know why some places seem so far away and hard to get to and others, not so much. I’d regularly walk to and the length of Burlington Street to see if there were any new rail cars at National Steel Car and then make my way back to Canamera Foods on the way home. For some reason, stopping by the former CN Stuart Street yard was never a high priority. The above photo is taken from the James Street North overpass looking sort of toward Toronto. When I took it, it was Southern Ontario Railway’s yard and often home to their latest near death locomotive purchase.
A quick turn in the opposite direction shows what I was hanging around to watch, this chilly afternoon: a SOR local returning to the yard. At the helm are a pair of former CN sw1200rs diesels still decorated for their former owner. Off in the distance is CN’s former Hamilton Station.
